A native of Florida, Dr. M. Maximillion Wilson received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of Florida in 1990. He was awarded a graduate assistantship in sociology at Western Illinois University, were he received his Master of Arts degree in 1992. He returned to UF in 1994 to begin work on his Ph.D. in Sociology (2000). While at UF he held teaching and research positions in the Departments of Family, Youth and Community Sciences, and Sociology.
Dr. Wilson taught sociology and public administration courses for colleges in Illinois and Florida. He was appointed to the St. Johns County (FL) Health and Human Services Advisory Board in 2000, becoming Chair of that body in 2002. He also worked as an independent program evaluator, providing evaluation research for public health, behavioral health, and literacy programs. Dr. Wilson became the Prevention Programs Coordinator and contract manager for the Florida Department of Health’s Area 4 AIDS Program Office (Jacksonville) in 2007. During his work for the Florida Department of Health he was appointed as the Statewide Evaluation Consultant for the Bureau of HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis, project director for the Ryan White Part C Early Intervention Program in Northeast Florida, and the regional HV/AIDS Program Coordinator functioning as the Ryan White Part B Lead Agency administrator. He holds certification in numerous CDC-approved HIV prevention interventions and is certified HIV testing and counseling. He has experience working on many several policy initiatives including the Enhanced Comprehensive HIV/AIDS Prevention Plan for Miami/Dade County (part of the federal 12 Cities Project), the Partnership for Care National Demonstration Project, and implementation of the Reproductive/Sexual Health Service Line in the Duval County (FL). In 2017, Dr. Wilson joined CAN Community Health, Inc. where he now helps to establish systems of communicable disease care and prevention across multiple states.
Dr. Wilson lives near St. Augustine, FL. He is a Registered Florida Master Naturalist and works locally to promote environmental education. He also enjoys international travel and beekeeping.
