    President & Chief Executive Officer

    A devoted friend of CAN, Richard E. Carlisle became the not-for-profit’s third President and Chief Executive Officer in April 2015. Rick was born in Columbus, Georgia and graduated with a degree in Building Science from Auburn University, where he was awarded “Most Outstanding Senior” in the School of Building Science.

    Rick came to Sarasota more than 35 years ago and quickly established a successful decade-long career as a modern contractor and real estate developer. He oversaw and managed luxury real estate development and construction, building many high-profile structures throughout Sarasota – including the current CAN clinic.

    Before assuming the role of CEO, Rick served as Vice President at Sarasota Memorial Hospital for 15 years. He was responsible for much of the hospital’s satellite growth which included the initial planning and eventual development of five outpatient centers, critical care center and several childcare centers, as well as the indigent care clinic. These healthcare facilities continue to provide much-needed services to the Sarasota community today.

    During his tenure at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Rick became the administrative liaison for CAN in the 90’s. He served as a board member for three years, working closely with Susan Terry, the original President and CEO, of CAN. Susan and Rick bonded over the common goal of serving a client base and community consisting of people of diverse backgrounds, cultures, economic classes, sexual orientations and gender identities.

    Under Rick’s leadership, CAN has grown considerably and will continue to do so. CAN boasts 34 clinics in locations throughout Florida and continues to expand, including acquiring a location in South Carolina. To date, CAN serves more than 15,000 patients within the network. Most recently, CAN was recognized as one of the “Best Places to Work” by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune for 2017, attesting to the strong values embodied within the workplace under Rick’s management.

    Rick believes that the organization’s steady growth and indisputable success is due to the “strength of a richly diverse workforce who embraces the people they serve with compassion and kindness.”
