Dr. Peter Berkey graduated with a B.S. degree in psychology from the University of Oregon. He attended medical school in Puerto Rico and is conversant in Spanish. He completed his Residency and Chief Residency at NY Medical College Westchester County Medical Center and completed his Fellowship in Infectious Diseases at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. He is board certified in Infectious Disease/Internal Medicine. During his Fellowship, Dr. Berkey published several papers involving patients who were immuno-compromised. In 1988, he began the private practice of Infectious Disease in Westchester County, NY where he has spent his career. He also served for many years as the Medical Director of a Ryan White clinic called “The Hope Center” in Yonkers, NY, providing HIV care.
Dr. Berkey recently relocated to the St Petersburg area where he is continuing his care for patients living with HIV. He is an avid exercise enthusiast. He recently earned a 3rd degree black belt in Japanese Shotokan Karate and plans to continue his martial arts training in the St Petersburg area. He has five grown children
