  • Corklin Steinhart, MD PhD

    Corklin (Corky) Steinhart is currently Medical Director of NW Florida and Senior Research Advisor for CAN Community Health of Sarasota FL. Prior to his current position there, he was Director of Research Development and Head, Medical Education. He is also the Chief Medical Officer of Payer Matrix, a company specializing in providing expensive treatments for a number of diseases at affordable costs and is Distinguished Professor at the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Center in China. Corky also is on the voluntary faculty as an Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Central Florida Medical School in Orlando, Florida.

    Previously, Corky spent 13 years in the pharmaceutical industry, first at Merck where he held several regional and global medical affairs positions in HIV, HCV, antimicrobials and antifungal diseases. Subsequently, he moved to ViiV/GSK where he was Head of Global Medical Directors. 

    Prior to entering the pharmaceutical industry, Corky was President of Steinhart Medical Associates in Miami, Florida, where his hospital-based practice specialized in HIV caring for more than 2000 PLWs. During his 16 years there, he participated in numerous clinical trials and served on a number of advisory boards. He also served as Chairperson of his hospital’s (Mercy Hospital) Institutional Review Committee and was the Founding Medical Director of Mercy Hospital’s Special Immunology Services. Corky also served as Medical Director of the Florida Caribbean AIDS Education Training Center for several years. 

    Corky obtained a PhD in Physiology from The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health and his MD degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa. He did his post-doctoral Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital.

    Corky currently lives in Orlando with his wife Pippa and spends as much time as he can with his 2 young grandchildren.
